Dine with the priests Mogens & Lena in a historical mansion

Entrepreneurship

The Story.

Imagine you are driving through the deep, enchanting forests of Sweden. You have got your best friends with you, and there’s a mischievous glint in the air, a premonition that something thrilling is about to happen. Perhaps it’s the atmospheric fog lingering below the treeline, or the surreal setting of the myths and legends of Lapland. All of a sudden, you stop in front of a great historic mansion. Today the mansion stands frozen in time; a glorious relic of the notorious era of the roaring twenties.

Curious, you step inside the imposing front door and are immediately thrown back in time. Clothes are exchanged for authentic 1920’s attire and you are handed a Mary Pickford cocktail to enjoy whilst your charming host gives you a tour of the residence.  You explore the property and its enigmatic atmosphere, each room revealing something more spectacular than the last and finally in an unexpected plot twist you are introduced to your two chefs for the evening a Priest couple, Lena and Mogens.

Delight in the wild and outlandish stories regaled by your local hosts over a sumptuous three-course feast, with dishes hand selected from a legendary cookbook that’s over 100 years old. Finish the evening in true flapper style in the glamorous salon where you will enjoy listening to gramophone music from the 1920s and 30s while Mogens, Lena and your host reveal incredible secrets about life in the village and the surrounding wilderness.  Relish these thrilling stories you won’t read in any book. Perhaps Lena or Mogens will ask you to dance?

If you are interested in meeting genuine locals to take a “once in a lifetime” story to home with you then you will not be disappointed, although perhaps the tale will be so outrageous that no one will believe you when you attempt to share it…

The Profile.

This is the story of two priests who found the perfect place to combine work, family life and wilderness activities.

Lena who was born and raised on a farm outside Hudiksvall was an active scout growing up. She began her religious studies in 1994 in Umeå and was ordained a priest for Luleå diocese in 2000. She first met her future husband Mogens at a priest meeting in Skellefteå in 2003 and two years later she moved to the village where they would also marry. Even though Lena looks like an innocent female priest she has a licence to kill – moose! She is active in the village’s hunting team and anyone who doesn’t think priests love dancing should watch out for her hidden talents.

Mogens was born into the Danish minority in northern Germany, an educated theologian from Aarhus University in Denmark, he studied his Masters in Kyoto, Japan. During his studies he got the opportunity to work on development projects in East Africa. After his exams he worked in the student parish of Aarhus and in 2003 he became a priest in the village where he later married Lena. Mogens has been working as a mobile priest for the Swedish Church abroad since 2015 so has lots of interesting stories from his travels. He has travelled to various places including India, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Singapore, South Korea, Japan and the Philippines. As a “flying priest”, he is a celebrant for worship, performs baptisms, weddings and confirmations. He also participates at various events organized by the Chamber of Commerce, Swedish companies or embassies. Less glamourous work is when he visits imprisoned Swedes who wish to make confession and these stories of course are the only ones he cannot divulge.

The Profile.

Jessica Stark is one of Sweden’s most influential entrepreneurs, frequently cited in the media and involved in many business ventures. She has been working with business start-ups for the past 15 years and is specialized within innovation, entrepreneurship, networking, business development and leadership & business culture. Her big breakthrough came with her role as co-founder and CEO of the startup cluster SUP46 (Start-Up People of Sweden) which developed into one of Europe´s leading hubs for fast-growing tech companies in 2013. Jessica quickly gained the nickname “startup mother” based on her passion for maturing the Swedish startup ecosystem and empowering the growth of companies. Jessica currently runs her own agency focusing on business development and boardroom work but she also participates in many international networks. Her involvement and effort has been awarded many times, amongst others, by the global business platform BNI (Business Network International) as “Business Networker of the Year” in Sweden and by EU-Startups as “Europe’s most influential women in the startup and venture capital space”.

When Jessica shuts down her laptop, she loves to be out in nature, take long walks with her dog, sailing, gardening or DIY on her house. It gives her peace of mind. The competitive instinct and drive to perform is something that has characterized most of Jessica’s life. Her life philosophy is “To dare, is to lose one’s foothold for a little while – not to dare, is to lose oneself”. The dream of becoming a film star is unfortunately still on ice, but for her daughter, Jessica has instead become a successful storyteller.

What was the biggest challenge in her career? How did Jessica become a flambéing enthusiast? In which sport did she perform as one of the best in Sweden when only 11 years old? Which animal is she at war with in Ekerö where she lives? Which of the many startup businesses are her favourite?

Måns interest in cocktails began in London in the mid 1980s. Since then, his passion for drinks has taken him to bars around the world, from New York to Havana, Monaco to Tokyo and Budapest to Berlin to name just some of Måns favourite cities. For more than 30 years, Måns has been able to follow the development of cocktails in Stockholm, from the days when no bartender knew how to make a Caipirinha, until the present day where now the city is home to some of the world’s best cocktail bars. For several years, Måns has also been on the jury for the BCA – Bartenders Choice Award, which gives him another insight into the global bar scene.

So immerse yourself in the fascinating world of mixology together with Måns and his mixologist team.  Learn the fine art of how to make classic cocktails with a modern twist. You will learn the classic techniques, the basics of mixology and how to prepare ingredients that are essential for making the most delectable cocktails. After a relaxed introduction you will have the chance to apply everything you have learnt to create your own masterpiece. Will you make a ”riff” on a classic cocktail or go crazy, inventing something unique with your favourite flavours! After the workshop you will be able to impress your friends and family members with your new knowledge and mixing skills. Take the chance to create a show stopping cocktail, so delicious, that Måns and his mixologist team might introduce your creation to the bar scene of Stockholm! Maybe a new cocktail story will begin with you?

The Profile.

Måns Herngren made his name as an actor, director and screenwriter. He is the eldest of the famous Herngren siblings and when he is not working on films he is a commercial director for TV. His big breakthrough came with the comedy TV-series S*M*A*S*H (1990), written and directed by Måns Herngren himself and Hannes Holm. From this television success they became a great script duo and directed the feature films En på miljonen (1995), Adam & Eva (1997), Shit happens (2000) and The reunion (2002). In 2006 Måns directed his first feature film with his brother, the box office hit Every Other Week. Since then they have created a couple of award-winning comedy series and films, like Solsidan, Bonusfamiljen, The 101-Year-Old Man Who Skipped Out on the Bill and Disappeared and The Restaurant (Vår tid är nu).

Over the years, Måns has been awarded Kristallen, The Golden Egg Award and Roy Awards for his work. His feature films have become Swedish classics and his twisted sense of humour with scripts is his strength. To add to his many talents, Måns is a true foodie and mixologist too. We have seen him mixing up drinks in Pluras Kök and TV3´s uppesittarkväll. He enjoys frequenting top restaurants and never says no to a great cocktail. Måns is a true insider in the bar scene and many of his friends are award winning mixologists and top chefs.
